About Our Kennel

We started with a dream to build a successful home-based business back in 2015. We quickly decided to combine our love of animals and country living into the dog boarding and daycare facility you see before you. We opened our doors in November 2018 and when we first envisioned the kennel we saw our three dogs, Ty, Ben and Roxy as the dog ambassadors for the business and designed the logo to include Ty (chocolate lab), Ben (basenji) and Roxy (chihuahua). Before the kennel was open we had to say good-bye to Ty and Roxy as old age took its toll and in turn we welcomed some new members to our family, Barkley, Cimino, Ginny, Pippa, Edee and Bel. It is always hard to say good-bye to our family but having Ty and Roxy remembered in the logo for this labor of love seemed just perfect.

One of our major goals for this kennel was to build a place that we would be happy to bring our own dogs to. We wanted to create an environment that was free from anxiety (Ty did not like being in a kennel all day), a fun place to play, explore and hang out (Ben liked to be able to see everything and nap in the sunshine), and most importantly to have a space for every dog (Roxy was only 6lbs and needed a quiet space to nap away from the big dogs). We have created four outdoor play areas, a run around the outside of the play areas, an indoor play area, and quiet, comfortable kennels for nap time and overnight boarding.

We said good bye to our Ben in March 2021. Ben was a 14-year-old Basenji who had been Peter's best friend for over 12 years. He had mellowed in his old age and we called him the Fun Police, because he always had to run over and see what was happening when other dogs were playing together. Basenjis are an African breed and one of the oldest dog breeds in the world and trust us, Ben knew how special he was!

Barkley was our resident farm dog and came with the property when we bought it. We unfortunately lost Barkley in 2019 and it has not been the same without him. He was a Great Pyrenees/Golden/Maremma mix and he spent his days napping and his evenings barking at the coyotes. Many of our clients, in our first year of business, were used to seeing the big white Barkley dog keeping an eye on all the comings and goings at the kennel.

Cimino is an 11-year-old Cockapoo who was re-homed to us through family friends in 2017. He used to live in Toronto and still finds it hard to do his business on the grass. He has some separation anxiety but has thrived since he made this place home and spends his days keeping track of where everybody is and what they are doing. He has started to lose his hearing but he can still bark at the traffic going up and down the driveway.

Ginny is 6 years old now. She is a Blue heeler/Golden/Maremma mix and about the sweetest dog you could ever meet... who is also built like a brick wall! She is a solid 85lbs and when she is really excited will show you all her teeth with a big goofy smile. She had knee surgery in 2020 and with some extensive rest and recovery she bounced back. Ginny takes her job at the kennel very seriously, working as our kennel ambassador and dog play supervisor!

Pippa was our first rescue from Mexico and that is how we came to know about the PVCA animal rescue group. Pippa is over 5 years old, a chihuahua/daschund mix and we couldn't imagine this place without her. After we adopted Pippa we were inspired to become a foster home for PVCA and have welcomed numerous other small dogs into our home as they transition to their forever homes.

Edee is our first foster fail! She was our fourth foster dog from Mexico and arrived the night before we lost Barkley. It seemed like she was meant to be a part of our family and she is just the sweetest little terrier/chihuahua mix. She is approximately 5 years old and she has become a permanent addition to Andrea's lap!

In March 2021 we made the decision to hire some help; Deb joined our kennel family and we miss her now that she has gone back to her job at the hospital full time. In the summer of 2021 we hired our first students, Gracie, Lauren, and Charly, and Gracie has now been with us for 2 years. Then in 2022 we hired Hayley, and in 2023 we hired Kristen. We trust them with our business and our own dogs and you can trust them to meet and exceed the level of care you have come to expect at Cairdeas Kennel!

The best part of our day is getting to spend time with the dogs in the play area. Dogs bring such joy and energy to everything they do and it is our privilege to hang out with such a great group of dogs. Check out the boarding and daycare tabs on this website for more information about the services we offer.
